Resumo:The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is very important in the decision-making process for the environmental licensing of large enterprises, such as wind farms which an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) and an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) are required. In this paper, we evaluated nine wind farms EIS/EIR that will be installed in Brazil, being eight in the Brazilian Northeast and one in the South. In addition, our main results were: a) there is a big amount of secondary and regional data in the studies; b) only two studies made a monitoring proposal with data sampling; c) none of the studies did a sampling about the bat fauna, animals that can be attracted by turbines and might die if they collide with them; d) there are studies that are basically copy of each other. We conclude that the agencies responsible for the analysis and approval of this kind of project should be more critical, especially with the local data collection (environmental and social) before the wind farm implementation start and about the monitoring of such areas.
