Resumo:The solid waste is becoming a growing problem in current society. Its bad management results, as a consequence, in various problems of public health and sanitation, as well as the great amount of resources that is wasted in this process. The organic portion of the waste, specifically from pruning and weeding (green waste), represents a high percentage of the amount produced, therefore, it deserves spotlight. Among the various ways of handling with this fraction, the composting is the technique that is most efficient, since, besides being a natural process, its product is an organic fertilizer that can be used to enrich the substrate. The composting consists of a series steps, that aim to degrade the organic matter to obtain a final compost. In Central Campus of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, there is a high production of green waste, what makes difficult to manage it. In this way, this study proposed to know the campus current scenario with respect to this fraction of waste and to the actions of management, since the generation until the final destination, then analyzed the data and proposed, based on the bibliography, a plan of reuse involving the composting technique, that aims to improve the management of solid waste as a whole in the Campus.
