Resumo:Given the current scenario of intense population growth linked to drought seasons and consequently to water scarcity, the consumption of water from alternative sources of supply, mainly from underground water sources, has increased significantly. The objective of the present work was to perform an environmental diagnosis of the quality of groundwater exploited in tubular wells in the urban region of the city of Currais Novos / RN, coming from a crystalline fissural aquifer, although it is generally characterized as being of low hydrogeological potential, has demonstrated a relevant role in the water supply of the region. Thus, using a bibliographical, documentary and field activity survey, a qualitative research was developed, complemented by a quantitative approach, which included the georeferenced cadastre of 89 tubular wells, the mapping of sources of contamination in the surroundings of these wells and the collection carried out between August and December of 2018 of water samples from 19 tubular wells, which were selected whose criteria of accessibility and representative location of the entire urban environment of the study area. Laboratory analysis of physical parameters with a focus on nitrogen in the form of nitrate was used as support, however, the parameters of Total Dissolved Solids, Chloride and Sodium were also considered, where values recorded in each parameter were compared with the limits established in the Ordinance no. 2,914, dated December 12, 2011 - chapter I and CONAMA Resolution 357/2005, which recommends standards of potability and constitute the quality of the resource in diagnosis. Based on information provided by the users of these wells, the research identified the situation of these reservoirs, the main utilities of these wells, the sanitary conditions and the potential contaminating sources of their surroundings. The study pointed in particular that the results presented in the parameters analyzed presented restrictions for human consumption, because they present high concentrations of N (NO-3), and also high concentrations of Total Dissolved Solids, Chloride and Sodium. It is concluded that it is necessary to prioritize and ensure measures of treatment and periodic monitoring of these waters, once the irregularities presented in the results of this work inspire public health concerns of the population.
