Despite effective discussions about the treatments given to protect and perpetuate the history and memory of civilizations, cities like Natal have not kept up with this evolution. Districts such as Tirol and Petrópolis, bearers of architectural examples of different stylistic affiliations that translate the history of the city, of the neighborhoods and that prove the value of the region as a bearer of such heritage that translates not only in the buildings, but also in the scale of the landscape, the urban and also popular ideology, have neglected the existence of these patrimonial assets. The purpose of this work is to develop a preliminary design for a cultural center, containing as well a library and exhibition room. To accomplish that, works of authors such as Françoise Choay, Leonardo Castriota, Maria Cecília Fonseca, Natália Vieira de Miranda were consulted; the work also comprises the survey of the history of the building, studies of reference, besides the analysis of the physical and legal conditioners to obtain the final result of the architectural design. As iniciativas de proteção do patrimônio cultural começaram a se desenvolver há muito tempo. Apesar das discussões efetivas sobre os tratamentos dados para proteger e perpetuar a história e a memória das civilizações, cidades como Natal não têm acompanhado essa evolução. Bairros como Tirol e Petrópolis, portadores de exemplares arquitetônicos de diferentes filiações estilísticas que traduzem a história da cidade, dos bairros e que comprovam o valor da região como portadora do patrimônio que se traduz não somente no edificado, mas também na escala da paisagem, do urbano e também no ideário popular, têm negligenciado a existência desses bens de interesse patrimonial. O objetivo desse trabalho é elaborar um anteprojeto de um centro cultural, contendo os serviços de uma biblioteca e sala de exposição.
