This work recognizes this historical object as a structuring element of the territory and localities. It seeks in history its relevance to the consolidation of the city and identifies the construction of a place by the residents of Rio Potengi Street, located in one of the headwaters of the bridge. In this way, the research is justified by bringing the vision of the residents of Rua Rio Potengi to the conservation of that good. Contributing to the discussion through a proposal of urban intervention in the Igapó bridge and its surroundings that add the territory to the place, giving opportunity to the residentes express their opinion and reflect on their place. Passado e presente se unem na Ponte de Igapó que traz consigo a controvérsia de ter sido construída como o símbolo da modernidade e da integração e hoje presencia o sucateamento e marca um eixo de segregação na cidade. Este trabalho reconhece esse objeto histórico como um elemento estruturador do território e de localidades. Busca na história a sua relevância para a consolidação da cidade e identifica a construção de um lugar pelos moradores da Rua Rio Potengi, localizada em uma das cabeceiras da ponte. Desta forma, a pesquisa se justifica por trazer a visão dos moradores da Rua Rio Potengi para o debate de conservação desse bem.
