Resumo:Rio Grande do Norte (RN) state’s coast has been enduring from the impacts of the urban and socioeconomic growth on its restinga ecosystem, without a clear understanding from society of the its characteristics, limitations and environmental potentialities. Thus, this paper is intended to elucidate relevant procedures on sustainable landscape for the restinga environment, therefore it will: 1. Analyse the precepts that rule the sustainable landscape; 2. Present the restinga ecosystem on RN state; 3. Elaborate sustainable landscape recommendations for that area. 4. Produce a folder summarizing these recommendations as a guiding tool for all who intend to intervene in áreas of restinga. For this, the study rely on Dell (2009) about sustainable landscape and from Rizzini (1997), Esteves and Lacerda (2000), Amaral et al. (2013) and Fernandes (2011) about restinga environment. The presented recommendations are structured on the following stages: identification and conservation of environmentally important and fragile areas; pertinent types of soil use; building implementation on site; and the adequate use of vegetation. The recommendations prove to be an important tool for the urban expansion process in consonance with the conservation and environmental maintenance of the restinga ecosystem, by promoting the sustainable landscape principles adjustments in this area, additionally it represents a new research field with a great potential for further studies.
