Resumo:It includes discussions in the field of Theory of History and the History of Historiography about the style and self-writing in Oswaldo Lamartine de Faria (1919 – 2007). It proposes to think about how this memorialist produces a discourse on the hinterlands of Seridó based on exchanges that involve autobiographical writing. It introduces an exhibition about the modern individual as a historical subject (DUMONT, 1985) and self-production practices (GOMES, 2004), with autobiographical writing privileged here (LEJEUNE, 2008). A panorama is composed that allows recognizing a historiographical tradition to which the writings of Oswaldo Lamartine de Faria can be associated (MACÊDO, 2012; MEDEIROS NETA, 2007; MONTEIRO, 2006). Based on the studies of Michel Foucault (2017) on discursive regularities, it aims to discuss the formatting of a discourse about the sertões through the study of the style of the “author” and his “work”, categories that are also discussed (FOUCAULT, 2000). More specifically, it investigates the role of nostalgia (ALBUQUERQUE JÚNIOR, 2011) as a central element of Oswald's self-writing (GOMES, 2004; MALATIAN, 2009). The author's bibliography and a set of seventeen letters sent from Rio de Janeiro/RJ to Serra Negra do Norte/RN, from 1989 to 1994, with the inlander, his relative and friend, as the recipient, Ramiro Monteiro Dantas (1912 – 1997), serve as sources for the intended analyzes.
