| Resumo: | The present study has as object of research the Social Service, the National Policy of Social Assistance and the professional performance of the social worker in the scop of the Sistema Único de Assistência Social – SUAS, with the purpose of understanding the evolution of the social assistance in Brazil and the main limits and difficulties that this professional finds in his daily work. For the development of the historical analysis to which this work will be proposed took into account the specific objectives which compose in analyzing the historical evolution of the policy of social assistance; highlight the main limits and challenges to the implementation of the National Policy on Social Assistance in Brazil; understand the increase in the number of demands placed on the policy and the increase in the number of users in situations of social vulnerability; and the limits and challenges placed on the professional work of the social worker in SUAS. The research was developed as a requirement for complete the course of Social Work, as a way to obtain a bachelor's degree in Social Work. The study focused on the critical-dialectic approach, using in the construction process the methodological course of bibliographic and documentary analysis, characterizing itself as an exploratory study. Based on this study, it can be concluded that social assistance, as a public policy for social protection, after fifteen years of its sanction still finds barriers to its effectiveness because of the advance of neoliberalism in Brazilian capitalist society, resulting, front of this conjuncture, in significants impacts on the user population of the policy and in the development of the professional performance of the social worker within the scope of the Sistema Único de Assistência Social. |
