description This work results from a process of rapprochement to the violence against women as a theme, which took place during the internship in the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology from Rio Grande do Norte. This violence is understood as an expression of the social issue that affects the lives of many women and that also exists in school. The need to develop this work was observed, in order to raise questions about the school as an institution of society that can collaborate in strengthening the debate, prevention and confronting the violence against women. Therefore, to develop the proposal of this work, it was elected as a general objective, to identify initiatives to prevent and confront violence against women, developed in schools in the Brazilian context. To achieve this general objective, it was listed as specific objectives: to investigate and analyze violence against women as an expression of the social issue that exists in the school sphere and to investigate and analyze the school as a space for strengthening the debate, prevention and confront of violence against women. The methodology used to accomplish this work was an exploratory research, with an approach, predominantly qualitative, but also quantitative; a literature review was initially done, which addresses themes related to the study object; bibliographic survey in articles and books about the theme, the role of formal education of actions / programs related to the Maria da Penha Law developed in schools to confront violence against women, in the Brazilian context, which resulted in the discovery of eleven initiatives distributed in some States, however, it was observed that they are punctual and that do not cover the national territory; beyond documentary research, based on sources which provides datas of this violence and legislation related to the inclusion of psychologists and social workers in public basic schooling networks and the inclusion of content related to all forms of violence against women prevention as curricular content in a transversal nature in basic schooling. This way, it is presented that violence against women is a complex phenomenon, which manifests itself in different ways, with consequences that affect, above all, women - since they experience this violence in a more dramatic way - and can have impact in other spaces of the society, such as the school. In this case, considering the impacts on the teaching-learning process of students who, in some way, experience situations of violence against women. Therefore, we understand violence against women as one of the expressions of the social issue that enters the school environment and that can greatly affect the educational development of students and that the actions developed with this perspective are still limited and punctual, making even more pertinent the debate and the strengthening of initiatives aimed at the development of actions to prevent and confront violence against women in schools, aiming at changes in the paradigms of this sexist and patriarchal society.

Este trabalho é resultado de uma maior aproximação com a temática da violência contra a mulher, que aconteceu durante o estágio curricular obrigatório no Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte. Entende-se essa violência como uma das expressões da questão social que atinge a vida de muitas mulheres e que, também, perpassa a escola. Observou-se, assim, a necessidade do desenvolvimento deste trabalho, a fim de suscitar problematizações sobre a escola como uma instituição da sociedade que pode colaborar no fortalecimento do debate, da prevenção e do enfrentamento à violência contra a mulher. Portanto, para que pudéssemos desenvolver a proposta deste trabalho foi elencado como objetivo geral, identificar iniciativas de prevenção e de enfrentamento à violência contra a mulher, desenvolvidas em escolas no contexto brasileiro. Para que pudéssemos alcançar este objetivo geral, elencamos como objetivos específico: investigar e analisar a violência contra a mulher como expressão da questão social que perpassa o âmbito escolar e investigar e analisar a escola como espaço de fortalecimento do debate, da prevenção e do enfrentamento à violência contra a mulher. A metodologia utilizada para a concretização desse trabalho foi uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório, com abordagem, sobretudo qualitativa, mas também se utilizou a quantitativa; foi realizada inicialmente uma revisão da literatura, que aborda temas relacionado ao objeto de estudo, com levantamento bibliográfico em artigos e livros sobre a temática, do papel da educação formal e de ações/programas relacionadas à Lei Maria da Penha desenvolvidas em escolas para o enfrentamento à violência contra as mulheres, no contexto brasileiro, que teve como resultado a descoberta de onze iniciativas distribuídas em alguns Estados, contudo, observou-se que são iniciativas pontuais e que não abrangem o território nacional; além de pesquisa documental, com base em fontes que trazem índices sobre essa violência e de legislações relacionadas a inserção de psicólogo e do assistente social nas redes públicas de educação básica e a inclusão de conteúdos relativos à prevenção de todas as formas de violência contra a mulher como conteúdo curricular de caráter transversal na educação básica. Assim, evidenciamos a violência contra a mulher como um fenômeno multicausal, que se manifesta de diversas formas, com consequências que afetam, sobretudo, as mulheres e que podem repercutir em outros espaços da sociedade, como por exemplo, a escola. Nesse último caso, considerando os impactos no processo de ensino-aprendizagem de discentes que, de algum modo, vivenciam situações de violência contra a mulher.
