Resumo:The present work entitled “The challenges of the work of Social Work in Oncology: An analysis of the experience at HUOL” has the general objective of apprehending the challenges of social service professionals in their work with oncology users at HUOL, in the sense of guaranteeing rights and quality of life. The monograph weaves an analysis of the health policy, and specifically, the National Policy of Oncological Attention (PNAO) in Brazil, as well as a debate about the importance of Social Work in health and the challenges posed to its performance with cancer users at HUOL. The methodology used was qualitative research seeking to analyze the movement of reality through living at HUOL, an institution that is the location of the curricular internship. And yet, bibliographic research and document analysis. From this, I was able to conclude that despite the institutionalization of SUS in the Federal Constitution of 1988, what is observed today is the dismantling of health policy, the result of the neoliberal adjustment that was consolidated under the FHC government. This fragmentation of the policy has consequences for the performance of Social Work in health since it sharpens social inequalities and the expressions of the “social issue”, the main issue of professional intervention. In this sense, the need for the work of the social worker in health is highlighted, because when we understand that the health-disease process is not only related to biological issues, the importance of the insertion of Social Work in health is emphasized, with professionals dedicated to responding to the social demands articulated with the health reform project, and with the profession's ethical-political project.
