Resumo:This paper presents an analysis of the social determinants of health in rural workers affected by cancer who were treated at the Onofre Lopes Hospital (UHO / HUOL) between the years 2014 and 2016, highlighting the importance of the inclusion of social workers in units. With the study of exploratory nature, combining qualitative and quantitative procedures, it was possible to identify aspects that make up the socioeconomic profile of rural workers using the UHO / HUOL. The data obtained show that the social determinants of health are related to disease involvement and aggravation of diseases, since the lack of educational measures for prevention and late detection of the disease are factors that influence the treatment of cancer. With the experience of the academic stage and the realization of semi-structured interviews, it can be seen that the work of Social Service professionals in oncology units differs from other areas of health, mainly due to the conditions in which it is necessary to deal with users in the terminal state of disease.
