description Objective: To identify the incidence of exclusive breastfeeding and oral habits in preterm infants after hospital discharge, whose mothers were oriented at the maternity ward. Method: This is a quantitative and cross-sectional study. Sample composed of 57 babies born in a Maternity School, with gestational age between 23 and 34 weeks. Data were collected by analyzing the medical records and applying a questionnaire answered by the guardians about the infant's history. Variables related to the orientation given by the maternity, regarding oral habits and exclusive or complementary breastfeeding, whether they had exclusive breastfeeding and for how long and the use of oral habits when they got home. Statistical analyzes were performed considering as a level of statistical significance p value ≤0.05. Results: It was found that 49.1% of babies were breastfed, 64.9% have some oral habit. Regarding the type of breastfeeding, only breast milk was reported in more than half of the cases and babies born under 30 weeks are associated with not drinking breast milk. Conclusion: It was concluded that the mothers of preterm newborns were oriented during hospitalization in the Child-Friendly Hospital Initiative practice. However, it was observed that more than half of the children did not follow exclusive breastfeeding until six months of corrected age, had some deleterious oral habit and the vast majority used bottle feeding.

Objetivo:identificar a incidência do aleitamento materno exclusivo e dos hábitos orais em recém-nascidos pré-termo após alta hospitalar, cujas as mães foram orientadas ainda na maternidade. Método: Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo e transversal. Amostra composta por 57 bebês nascidos em uma Maternidade Escola, com idade gestacional entre 23 e 34 semanas. Os dados foram coletados através da análise dos prontuários e aplicação de questionário respondido pelos responsáveis sobre o histórico do lactente. Variáveis referentes à orientação prestada pela maternidade, quanto aos hábitos orais e o aleitamento materno exclusivo ou complementar, se teve aleitamento materno exclusivo e por quanto tempo e o uso de hábitos orais ao chegar em casa. Foram realizadas análises estatísticas considerando como nível de significância estatística valor de p ≤0,05.Resultados: Verificou-se que 49,1% dos bebês foram amamentados, 64,9% tem algum hábito oral. Quanto ao tipo de amamentação, somente leite materno foi relatado em mais da metade dos casos e os bebês que nasceram com menos de 30 semanas estão associados a não ingerir leite materno.
