Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study, approved by the Research Ethics Committee (opinion: 3,180,318) and all participants signed the Informed Consent Form. 29 teachers from the rural area participated. Individuals who smoke or those who quit smoking less than five years ago and those with less than three years in the profession were excluded. The Vocal Symptoms Scale (ESV) was applied, validated for the Brazilian Portuguese and the Musculoskeletal Pain Investigation Questionnaire (MDI). ESV identifies the frequency of occurrence of vocal symptoms and is composed of 30 items. MDI identifies the presence and intensity of pain in the proximal and distal regions of the larynx. Spearman correlation analysis was performed to relate the total ESV score with the presence and intensy of musculoskeletal pain. Results: There was a positive relationship between the total ESV score with the presence and intensity of pain in the chin, larynx and front region of the neck. Conclusion: There is a relationship between vocal symptoms and musculoskeletal pain in the chin, larynx and front region of the neck in teachers in the rural area, so that the higher the presence of vocal symptoms, the greater the frequency and intensity of pain. Pointing to the need for teacher health care strategies. Objetivo: Relacionar os sintomas vocais e a dor musculoesquelética em professores da zona rural. Métodos: Este é um estudo transversal observacional, aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa (parecer: 3.180.318) e todos os participantes assinaram o TCLE. Participaram 29 professores da zona rural. Foram excluídos os indivíduos tabagistas ou que pararam de fumar há menos de cinco anos e aqueles com menos de três anos na profissão. Foi aplicada a Escala de Sintomas Vocais (ESV), validada para o português brasileiro e o questionário de Investigação da Dor Musculoesquelética (IDM). A ESV identifica a frequência de ocorrência de sintomas vocais e é composta por 30 itens. O IDM identifica a presença e intensidade da dor nas regiões distais e proximais da laringe. Foi realizada análise de correlação de Spearman para relacionar o escore total da ESV com a presença e intensidade da dor musculoesquelética. Resultados: Houve relação positiva entre o escore total da ESV com a presença e intensidade de dor no queixo, na laringe e na região anterior do pescoço. Conclusão: Há relação entre sintomas vocais e dor musculoesquelética nas regiões do queixo, da laringe e na região anterior do pescoço em professores da zona rural, de maneira que quanto maior a presença de sintomas vocais, maior a frequência e intensidade da dor.
