Crynodeb: | Introduction: Asthma is a disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the airways, with high prevalence and impact in brazilian children and adolescents. The poor asthma control, due mainly to the disagreement of doctors and patients about the control of asthma, promotes the prescription of insufficient or excessive treatment. A poor sleep may also play a direct role in worsening asthma, since a major marker of severity of asthma is the nocturnal symptoms, directly linked to circadian control. Objective: evaluate, in asthmatic children, the association between the asthma control and sleep disorders. Method: 10 children, aged between 7 and 11 years, of both genders, were evaluated. The asthma control was assessed by Childhood Asthma Control Test (c-ACT), and sleep was assessed according to the presence or not of disorders, by the Sleep disturbance scale for children. The statistical analysis was performed using the software Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0 for Windows. Results: the results showed a correlation between asthma control and sleep breathing disorders (SBD) (-0,812), sleep wake transition disorders (bSWTD) (-0,656), disorder of excessive somnolence (DOES) (-0,667) and with total sleep score (0,877). Conclusion: There is a strong significant correlation between poor asthma control with SBD and total sleep, and there is a good significant correlation between this poor control and SWTD and DOES. |
