Resumo:INTRODUCTION: The Undergraduate Physiotherapy course seeks to educate its participants so that they become Generalist Physical Therapists. It is part of their training to study human movement with the objective of preserving, developing and restoring the integrity of organs, systems and functions in a comprehensive and global way. Within this context, Pelvic Physiotherapy works in the attention to female, male, and childhood kinetic-functional dysfunctions related to the functionality of the pelvic floor muscles. Thus, the subject pelvic floor should be approached from the beginning, so that the student is able to face the relationship theory and practice in a broad and adequate way. However, there are still few studies that propose to analyze the prior knowledge of students about the anatomy and structures that make up the pelvic floor. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the level of knowledge of undergraduate students of the Physiotherapy course of a public university on the subject of pelvic floor. METHODOLOGY: This is an exploratory and descriptive cross-sectional study of 113 volunteers. The descriptive statistical analysis was presented with their respective absolute values, relative (mean and standard deviation) and percentage. As an instrument of data collection, an auto-questionnaire was used, with open and closed questions related to the pelvic floor theme. Students enrolled in the Physiotherapy course of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN, Campinas Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, of both genders, over 18 years of age, who accepted to participate in the study and who were attending the study were interviewed. 1st and 7th period. RESULTS: 54.9% of the sample did not know the location of the pelvic floor, 46.9% could not find the main pelvic muscles and 52.2% did not know how to locate the muscles and structures in a human pelvis. CONCLUSION: Was observed there is a gap in the knowledge of the participants and that, despite claiming to know the pelvic floor, most didn’t recognize its location and its structures. It is necessary that the subject is more approached in the basic and pre-professional disciplines.
