It is known that the Chikungunya virus has an impact on the health of individuals,
supported by a large network of multiple factors, which can lead to chronic consequences.
Of the factors that can directly influence the severity and the interference of this pain
perpetuating it we have the sleep alterations that correlate with the chronic pain increasing
its perception. The Brazilian scenario regarding the large number of cases of people
infected by the Chikungunya virus still needs to be investigated, adding to the existence
in the literature of few studies with elderly people evaluating the relation between sleep
and pain specifically caused by this virus. when considering personal pathological
antecedents. Thus, this research aimed to relate this relationship (sleep and chronic pain
from CHIK V) with changes also in markers of sleepiness, anxiety, depression and quality
of life. The research design is characterized as an observational cross-sectional study with
the collection of the Basic Health Unit of Aparecida in the neighborhood of Mãe Luiza in
Natal. Seven validated questionnaires were applied, preceded by the completion of a
sociodemographic record. Firstly, we performed the descriptive statistical analysis of the
variables obtained including the determination of the characteristic of the distribution of
each variable and, later, the inferential statistical analysis in order to search for
relationships between pain, anxiety, depression, quality of life and quality variables and
regularity of sleep in the individuals interviewed. Specifically, we sought to use multiple
correlation and regression tests to determine the predictive variables of pain. After
analyzing the data, we concluded that only the anxiety variable showed no significant
association with the pain variables, and that the quality of sleep measured by the IQSP
and the quality of life measured by the SF-36 were the variables that best predict arthralgia
in this sample. Therefore, we conclude that both sleep health and the maintenance of
adequate levels of quality of life impact the daily life of the individuals affected by the
Chikungunya virus and that this knowledge must be taken into consideration and
evaluated in our patients, aiming to reduce the risks to that are linked to their occurrence. |
