Introduction: Spinal cord injury is associated with extensive functional deficiencies that lead the individual to adopt predominantly seated posture. The trunk control in this posture ends up determining the ability of the individual to perform their ADLs. It is evidenced by the literature that the...

The trunk control in this posture ends up determining the ability of the individual to perform their ADLs. It is evidenced by the literature that the visual system acts as an important element for the maintenance of postural control. Objective: To analyze the electromyographic activity of the trunk muscles during a seated posture control task with and without visual information. Methods: Individuals with complete spinal cord injury, thoracic injury level, were instructed to remain seated, without upper limbs, in two tasks: the first, with open eyes and the second with closed eyes, for capturing and analyzing the trunk musculature EMG activity. Results: It was observed that there was a greater muscular contraction in the task of open eyes and an important activation of non-postural muscles. Conclusion: The influence of the visual system should be considered in the activation of the muscles for the postural control of patients with complete SCI, since there was a difference in the activation of the trunk muscles when performing task with and without visual inputs.
