description Introduction: Preeclampsia (PE) and Diabetes mellitus (DM) are common diseases during pregnancy, characterized respectively by changes in blood pressure with or without proteinuria and hyperglycemia. Both cause significant changes in the general metabolic status of pregnant women, increasing the risk of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Objective: To evaluate the general metabolic profile of pregnant women with PE and/or DM. Material and Methods: Nine pregnant women with severe PE (PE Group), 7 with severe PE and DM (PE+DM Group); and 9 normoglycemic and normotensive (Control Group - GC) attended at the Januário Cicco Maternity School/UFRN were included. Fasting blood and first morning urine samples were collected to evaluate the metabolic profile. Results: As expected, a significant increase in blood glucose was observed in the PE+DM group when compared to the other groups (p=0,001). Regarding renal function parameters, increases in creatinine (PExGC, p=0,041), uric acid (PE+DMxGC, p=0,002; PE x GC, p=0,001) and ACR (PE+DMxGC p= 0,002; PExGC, p=0,005) associated with decreased albumin (PE+DMxGC, p=0,001; PExGC, p=0,012) and total protein (PE+DMxGC, p=0,002). Increases in phosphorus (PE+DMxGC, p=0,018), magnesium (PE+DMxGC, p=0,001; PExGC, p=0,016) and calcium (PE+DMxGC, p=0,031) concentrations were also observed. In the lipid profile, an increase in triglyceride concentration was observed in the PE+DM group when compared to the other groups (PE: p=0,005 and CG: p=0,013). Conclusion: These results demonstrate that the overall metabolic profile of the pregnant women evaluated was consistent with that expected for pregnant women with PE and/or DM. However, DM associated with PE only influenced triglyceride concentration.

Introdução: A pré-eclâmpsia (PE) e o Diabetes mellitus (DM) são doenças comuns durante a gestação, caracterizadas respectivamente, por alterações na pressão arterial, com presença ou não de proteinúria, e hiperglicemia. Ambas provocam alterações significativas no estado metabólico geral das gestantes, aumentando o risco de morbidade e mortalidade materna e neonatal. Objetivo: Avaliar o perfil metabólico geral de gestantes com PE e/ou DM. Material e Métodos: Foram incluídas 9 gestantes com PE grave (Grupo PE), 7 com PE grave e DM (Grupo PE+DM); e 9 normoglicêmicas e normotensas (Grupo Controle–GC) atendidas na Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco/UFRN. Foram coletadas amostras de sangue em jejum e primeira urina da manhã para avaliação do perfil metabólico. Resultados: Como esperado, foi observado um aumento significativo da glicemia no grupo PE+DM quando comparado aos demais grupos (p=0,001). Avaliando os parâmetros da função renal, foram observados aumentos nos valores de creatinina (PExGC, p=0,041), ácido úrico (PE+DMxGC, p=0,002; PExGC, p=0,001) e RAC (PE+DMxGC p=0,002; PExGC, p=0,005) associados à diminuição de albumina (PE+DMxGC, p=0,001; PExGC, p=0,012) e proteína total (PE+DMxGC, p=0,002). Foram observados, ainda, aumentos nas concentrações de fósforo (PE+DMxGC, p=0,018), magnésio (PE+DMxGC, p=0,001; PExGC, p=0,016) e diminuição no cálcio (PE+DMxGC, p=0,031). No perfil lipídico, foi observado um aumento dos triglicerídeos no grupo PE+DM quando comparado aos demais grupos (PE, p=0,005 e GC, p=0,013). Conclusão: Esses resultados demonstram que o perfil metabólico geral das gestantes avaliadas foi compatível ao esperado para gestantes com PE e/ou DM.
