Resumo: | Introduction: Ferulic Acid is a phenolic compound widely found in monocotyledons with a
large application field, especially in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. It has proven
antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and other activities especially due to its molecular structure.
The main factor that can lead to more serious skin damages like inflammation, dryness,
wrinkles, and cancer is the exposure to UV radiation increasing the radical oxygen species
ratio. The aim of this review is to evaluate the application of Ferulic Acid in topical
formulations and the technologies used to enhance its bioavailability and stability in the
compositions.
Areas covered: This patent review covers the publications between 2008-2018 in four
different databases, analyzed the tendency and application of the Ferulic Acid by country and
years of publication. Having a bigger picture of its effects by in vivo and in vitro studies
specifically in topical formulations.
Expert opinion: The Ferulic Acid showed great activity in many formulations for topical
application and improved stability and bioavailability when combined to new technologies
and techniques. Showing an open path to target the treatment of skin disorders. |
