This is a narrative literary review study conducted in two databases (Scielo and Google Scholar) conducted through the keywords: “Public Health”, “Pharmaceutical Assistance” and “Hospital Pharmacy” and selected through critical analysis. of the contents focused on technical issues and policies related to pharmaceutical care. It is concluded, therefore, that it is of fundamental importance that the mission of the professional is well defined so that he can make the best decision in the face of the difficulties intrinsic to the current public health panorama and that he can seek and adapt his work within the philosophy established by the professional. Unified Health System always focusing its actions on the figure of patient care. Este trabalho contempla aspectos relativos à função administrativa e clínica do farmacêutico, tendo como objetivo a análise da sua atuação, onde de um lado, há a necessidade de manter o serviço de farmácia hospitalar em pleno funcionamento através de artifícios como permutas intermináveis e do outro, a subutilização das atribuições clínicas do mesmo, por meio da inviabilização da prática da assistência farmacêutica em sua totalidade, resultando em um maior prejuízo a segurança do paciente. Trata-se de um estudo de revisão literária narrativa realizado em duas bases de dados (Scielo e Google Acadêmico) conduzido através das palavras-chaves: “Saúde pública”, “Assistência farmacêutica” e “Farmácia hospitalar” e selecionados por meio de análise crítica dos conteúdos voltados às questões técnicas e políticas relacionadas à assistência farmacêutica.
