Resumo:The existence of supernatural entities living among us has aways been a reality throughout human hiistory. Legends and myths permeate the imaginary and, through it, invade and settle in to many place, where oral narratives give them even more life. This is not different in Rio Grande do Norte. Fantastic creatures form a true fauna, with their own characteristics and habitats. Despite this, there seems to be a decrease in reports of these magical beings, something already outlined by writers like Luis da Câmara Cascudo in the 1940s. In this way, this research intends, in a first moment, to make a brief notes about the imaginary, the oral narratives, and how both act in the construction pf reality. Then, from interviews and their crossing with the bibliographic survey, to map the fantastic animals and to evidence their extinction process in the cities of Serra Caiada and Senador Elói de Souza.
