Resumo:The objective of this research was to evaluate the performance in recognition memory test after the carbohydrate solution administration in the form of ingesting and mouth rinse. Were evaluated 79 participants grouped into four groups: mouth rinse maltodextrin, mouth rinse placebo, ingesting maltodextrin, ingesting placebo. For the groups administered with maltodextrin was a solution of 50 ml of water with 6% maltodextrin. Survey participants performed a word recognition test and also evaluated the level of confidence of their responses. To estimate the contributions of recollection and familiarity components were used in the performance levels of trust to build ROC curves. This study found no influence of maltodextrin solutions on performance recognition test related to the familiarity of components and memory, but behind evidence that simply mouth rinse the maltodextrin solution improves word recognition to exercise positive role for most number of hit. Thus, this finding adds to others that suggest that carbohydrate solution rinses through gustatory receptor is able to activate specific regions of the brain with positive impact on the improvement of cognitive functions in the case of this study, the improvement in word recognition memory.
