Resumo:The aim of this study was to identify socioeconomic conditions, evaluate nutritional status and associate them with the functional capacity for basic activities of daily living of the elderly attended at a school clinic in the Trairi Region. Cross-sectional epidemiological study, descriptive and analytical, carried out within a quantitative approach, approved under CAAE: 97398918.7.0000.5568. 37 elderly people participated in the survey, who answered a structured questionnaire stating their personal data and socioeconomic conditions. To assess functional capacity, the Katz Index was used, and anthropometric measurements (BMI, CP and CC) were performed to assess nutritional status. The sample is characterized by women (78.4%), with an average age of 70 years, single, divorced or widowed (48.6%), overweight (51.4%), and are at very high risk for the development of chronic diseases (81.1%), although 8.9% showed inadequacy in relation to the calf circumference reference values, indicative of muscle mass loss. The results show that the majority of active elderly people (78%) are independent for all BADLs, however, some elderly people (16%) confessed to occasionally having involuntary urinary or fecal losses. However, no significant associations were found between functional capacity and sociodemographic parameters or with anthropometric data, however studies reveal that sociodemographic factors are directly related to the functional capacity of the elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies and actions that promote changes in their eating habits and lifestyles.
