The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and the anthropometric profile of newborns assisted in the University Hospital child-friendly of the city of Santa Cruz-RN. The hospital nutrition protocol was used, constituting a sample of 2,671 pairs (pregnant / newborn). The statistical test was published as statistical significance (p <0.05). Most of the pregnant women started and ended a gestation in eutrophy. In relation to newborns, most of the weight and extrauterine adaptation without asphyxia. The correlation between the maternal and the anthropometric profile of the newborn was statistically significant (p <0.001). The combination of age and motherhood and birth weight (p <0.001). Differences between maternal nutritional status and birth weight, sometimes similarity between onset of overweight and obesity (p> 0.05) on birth weight and the difference between all birth weight residues (p <0.001) . This study is confirm with a discussion about the relationship between motherhood and the anthropometric profile of the newborn, however, more studies may be necessary to understand how nutritional events can interact and interfere with the health of the newborn. O período gestacional é marcado por alterações fisiológicas que requerem um aumento das necessidades energéticas e nutricionais, refletindo no estado nutricional gestacional, sendo este um fator determinante no desenvolvimento e crescimento fetal. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a relação do estado nutricional (EN) materno sobre o perfil antropométrico e o desenvolvimento de recém-nascido assistidos no Hospital Universitário Amigo da Criança da cidade de Santa Cruz-RN. Foi utilizado o arquivo do setor de nutrição do hospital, constituindo uma amostra de 2.671 pares (gestante/recém-nascido). A maioria das gestantes iniciou e finalizou a gestação em eutrofia. Em relação aos recém-nascidos, a maioria apresentaram peso adequado ao nascer e adaptação extra-uterina sem presença de asfixia. A correlação entre o EN materno e o perfil antropométrico do recém-nascido apresentou significância estatística (p < 0,001). Houve associação entre idade e EN materno e peso ao nascer (p < 0,001). Quanto a diferença entre o estado nutricional materno e o peso ao nascer, observou semelhança do EN inicial entre a amostra pareada de sobrepeso e obesidade (p > 0,05) sobre o peso ao nascer e diferença entre todos as amostras pareadas do EN final sobre o peso do nascimento (p < 0,001).
