Resumo:This work includes geological mapping as well as petrological rock analysis in an area a located in the center-south portion of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. In addition to the base mapping, the work focused on the characterization of the shear zones. In order to do so, information about the layout, location and extent of these were studied and collected. These structures have great economic importance, since they represent possible host regions of mineral occurrences of economic interest, such as copper, gold and scheelite. The mapped lithologies are inserted in two main groups, the biotite gnaisse, gneisses nebulíticos, gneisses bandado and amphibolites, belonging to Complex Caicó and the ortognaisses augen that are part of Suite Poço da Cruz. Besides these lithotypes, are still part of the area the neoproterozoic granites, tectonic-hydrothermal quartzites and marbles. As for the deformations and the metamorphic episodes that affect the studied area, there are four phases, the first three (D1 / M1, D2 / M2 and D3 / M3) under ductile regime, and the last, and most recent (D4 / M4), belonging to a fragile regime. The shear zones are inserted in the third phase D3 and have a preferred NW-SE trend. The lithologies reach metamorphic facies upper amphibolite.
