Resumo:The Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) is a useful tool for clinical evaluation of memory loss processes. This study aims to evaluate the e ffects of cognitive training and sleep hygiene techniques on word memorization in a RAVLT test applied to 60-86 year old subjects. The individuals in the study were randomly allocated to four treatments of interest: control, cognitive training, sleep hygiene and a combination of cognitive training with sleep hygiene. Data on the post-treatment number of recalled words and related memorization indexes are analyzed by covariance analyses, taking the corresponding preintervention measures as covariates values. The results suggest that cognitive training combined with sleep hygiene may increase the average number of words recalled in the spontaneous evocation phase of the test in relation to the control group. Covariance analysis is seen to be generally more e cient than analysis of variance to compare the treatment e ffects.
