Resumo:The Central Sterile Services Department of the Department of Dentistry of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte receives hundreds of dental instruments to be sterilized on a daily basis. This large handling of items has been proved to be unsustainable for the department, that did not have any computerization, what made the process slow and unreliable. There was a growing demand for a system that would effectively manage this process. This work presents a solution to this problem through a tool that allows the classification of dental instruments through the use of QR Code labels, and, by these means, streamline and make the process of handling the items more reliable. The decisions made throughout the process of creating the solution are described, from the requirements survey and system modeling to the development of the system. The results of the implementation of the tool are also discussed, by analyzing its impact for the sector and the possible improvements to be made
