Resumo:Introduction: The physiological hormonal changes in pregnancy can intensify the painful sensation. The presence of low back pain, pelvic girdle and lower member are related to depression/anxiety during pregnancy. Objective: Verify the relationship between the presence of pain during pregnancy with postpartum depressive symptoms in adolescents and adults. Methodology: Observational study with analytical cross-section, conducted with 86 pregnant women, 42 adolescents (13-18 years) and 44 adults (23-28 years) residing in Região do Trairi. The assessment of pelvic pain was evaluate using the Pelvic Pain Assessment Questionnaire and, for screening for depressive symptoms in the puerperium, the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS). The relationships between the variables were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney and Kuskal-Wallis tests. Linear regression analysis evaluated the relationship between the presence of pain and the score obtained on the EPDS, adjusted for education, marital status, income and ARS. Results: The group of adolescents who presented “deep pain during the sexual act” (p-value: 0,031), “pelvic pain after sexual act that it is prolong for hours/days” (p-value: 0,042), “muscular/joins pain” (p-value: 0,013) and “pain after sit” (p-value: 0,030), got higher score in EPDS scale, in compare with those which did not report any pain. The relationship between pain and depressive symptomatology was not significant for the adults. Conclusion: Pain is related to the presence of depressive symptoms in the puerperal period in adolescents.
