Fibromyalgia (FM) is a painful syndrome associated with hyperalgesia, allodynia, anxiety, depression, joint stiffness, headache, urogynecological changes and sexual dysfunctions. Objective: To analyze the existence of a relationship between sexual function and gynecological-obstetric factors in women with fibromyalgia. Methodology: Cross-sectional analytical study, conducted in the city of Santa Cruz - RN, with a sample of 29 women diagnosed with FM. The inclusion criteria adopted were: patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia, female, aged between 18 and 60 years, sexually active. Women who refused to complete the assessment protocol were excluded from the survey. The instruments used were: an evaluation form, prepared by the researchers, for the collection of sociodemographic, gynecological and obstetric data, and the Female Sexual Function Index – FSFI for screening sexual dysfunction. Results: The mean age of the sample participants was 48.13 ± 9.27. Women with menarche over 13 years old had lower scores in the “Excitement” domain when compared to those with menarche up to 13 years old (2.0 [2.0-2.5] versus 4.0 [2.0-4.2 ] p=0.01). Participants who reported the presence of episiotomy had lower scores in the “Orgasm” domain when compared to those without episiotomy (2.5 [1.5 – 4.5] versus 5.0 [4.0 – 6.0] p=0.03 ). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that late menarche and the presence of episiotomy negatively affect women's sexual function. |
