Resumo:The approximation process between the suburban citizen and music is a delicate subject and it is a needed topic in academic research. This situation reflects directly in the learning process which happens in this social context, being necessary that educators pay greater attention to its peculiarities and how to make education and social development more favorable and beneficial for students. The goal of this essay is to evaluate the formative musical dynamics in a suburban community. The social context was the neighborhood of Cidade da Esperança, at Natal/RN, where the musical aspects were narrated through a semi-structured interview. Therefore, this study presents how was their first contact with music, the importance of nonformal educational activities in social spaces and its influence against criminality. In this way, this work brings relevant data about suburban education, being music the main objective, giving another perspective about this subject, such as new ways to develop, together with the teenagers, beyond the technical music ability, but also endorse its social-critical thinking.
