Resumo: | This Course Completion Work (professional master's degree), composed by a reporter and a
technical project, consists of a retrofit proposal for the headquarters building of the State
Department of Public Health of Rio Grande do Norte (Sesap/RN), with an emphasis on Fire
Safety. As it is an elevated modernist building, designed and built before the decree of the first
Fire Prevention and Fighting Code in Rio Grande do Norte, in 1974, the study led to the
following question: how to adapt this 14-story building to the current requirements of the
legislation, maintaining its architectural characteristics? The work had as general objective to
develop the basic project of prevention and firefighting for the headquarters of Sesap/RN,
preserving its authenticity and adapting it to the current requirements and standards of Fire
Safety (SCI). From this technical project, it was observed that the architectural changes caused
are due to the adequacy of the emergency exits (horizontal circulation and stairs) and the façade
compartmentation (glass frames), but they are not requirements caused by the presence of
modernist elements . Thus, it was possible to conclude that the maintenance of the modernist
characteristics does not meet the SCI legislation in force. |
