This study deals with the problem of university evasion in the Public Policy Management course from the perspective of students who left the course between 2009 and 2019, seeking to elucidate the form of admission, factors that influenced the choice of the course, reasons for dropping out and the profile of the evaded. An online questionnaire was used as a research instrument, from which participants will answer about what made them drop out of the course and whether, in their opinion, something could have prevented it. Then, the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, resulting in an institutional diagnosis, in order to obtain an investigation that would provide a comprehensive view of the researched situation. The data obtained revealed that among the external factors, the “difficulty in reconciling study and work” was the most mentioned factor as a determining factor for dropping out of graduation. As for the internal factors, the “personal reasons”, according to the respondents, were decisive in defining the academic path. It was also exposed by the participants that the “lack of guidance at the beginning and during the course” contributed to the dropout. This factor deserves greater relevance, as it is an institutional support. With this study, we sought to understand and intervene on the dropout phenomenon in the context of higher education, especially the GPP course at UFRN, which can be seen as a contribution of actions that enable the reduction of dropout rates in the institution.

Dados gerenciais do Curso de Gestão de Políticas Públicas da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte têm gerado alerta: o grande número de alunos que não conclui o curso. Trata-se da evasão universitária, definida como o abandono do curso antes de sua conclusão. Este estudo trata da problemática da evasão universitária no curso de Gestão de Políticas Públicas sob a perspectiva de estudantes desligados do curso entre os anos de 2009 a 2019, buscando elucidar forma de ingresso, fatores que influenciaram a escolha do curso, motivos do abandono e o perfil dos evadidos. Foi usado como instrumento de pesquisa questionário online, a partir do qual os participantes responderão sobre o que lhes fizeram se evadir do curso e se, em suas opiniões, algo poderia ter evitado isso. Em seguida, os dados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva, tendo como resultado um diagnóstico institucional, a fim de se obter investigação que propiciasse uma visão integral da situação pesquisada. Os dados obtidos revelaram que entre os fatores externos a “dificuldade de conciliação entre o estudo e o trabalho” foi o fator mais apontado como determinante para o abandono da graduação. Já no tocante aos fatores internos, os “motivos pessoais”, segundo os respondentes, foram decisivos na definição do rumo acadêmico. Também foi exposto pelos participantes que a “falta de orientação no início e durante o curso” contribuiu para a evasão. Esse fator merece ter uma maior relevância, por ser um suporte institucional.
