As ideias pedagógico-higienistas na revista Pedagogium (1921-1927)
description The objective of this work was to understand the hygienist ideas that appear in the magazine Pedagogium and for what purpose, during the first phase of its publication, dated between 1921 and 1927. This magazine was created in northeastern of Brazil by the Association of Teachers of Rio Grande do Norte (ATRN), an entity created in 1920 and which brought together prominent members of education in Rio Grande do Norte. We sought to investigate the role of this journal in the educational field of the Rio Grande do Norte in the First Republic, a brazilian period by marked the discourse of social elites, possessing a civilizing and sanitizing desire, which, therefore, made education assume its ideals and the function of forming citizens who would contribute to national progress. To guide the research, considering this context, we start from the following question: how and for what purpose did the magazine Pedagogium relate the ideas of hygienism to the educational aspects of its time? In order to answer this question, the methodology used was composed of documentary analysis and bibliographic study of historiography regarding the object and related subjects. The concepts of Civility (ELIAS, 1994), Field (BOURDIEU, 1983; 1989; 2003; 2007) and Ideology (BARROS, 2015; SILVA; SILVA, 2009) were elucidated to theoretically direct the study. The historical documents analyzed in the research consist of copies of the Pedagogium edited between 1921 and 1927, except for the numbers 6 (1922), 16 (1924) and 18 (1925), which we did not have access to; the educational laws of Rio Grande do Norte from 1892 to 1925; and works from the Rio Grande do Norte published during the First Republic that addressed hygiene issues. In order to direct the investigation of the ources, we used the category of analysis Pedagogicalhygienist ideas, built from the concept of Pedagogical Ideas (SAVIANI, 2013) and the historical definition of Hygiene as an area of medicine. After conducting this study, we can conclude that the magazine, as well as its creative entity, ATRN, brought together several representatives of the local educational field concerned with the teaching situation of that time. This journal disseminated pedagogical-hygienist ideas, although part of them was already present in the educational legislation of Rio Grande do Norte, such as school hygiene, female education for the home and health education. In addition, it reported and praised educational actions by the state government based on hygienist principles. The process of the research carried out, in addition to understanding the role of Pedagogium for the educational field of Rio Grande do Norte in the Brazilian First Republic, pointed out other paths for future historiographic investigations, such as the deepening of the analysis of educational discourses of the investigated historical period.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi compreender as ideias higienistas que aparecem na revista Pedagogium e com que finalidade, durante a primeira fase de sua publicação, datada entre os anos de 1921 a 1927. Esse impresso foi idealizado pela Associação de Professores do Rio Grande do Norte (APRN), entidade criada em 1920 e que reunia membros de destaque na educação potiguar. Procuramos investigar o papel desse periódico no campo educacional norte-rio-grandense na Primeira República, período marcado pelo discurso das elites sociais, possuidoras de um desejo civilizatório e higienizador, e que, por isso, fizeram com que a educação assumisse seus ideais e a função de formar cidadãos que contribuíssem para o progresso nacional. Para nortear a pesquisa, considerando esse contexto, partimos do seguinte questionamento: como e com que finalidade a revista Pedagogium relacionou as ideias do higienismo aos aspectos educacionais da sua época? A fim de responder a essa pergunta, a metodologia utilizada foi composta por análise documental e estudo bibliográfico da historiografia referente ao objeto e a assuntos a ele relacionados. Os conceitos de Civilidade (ELIAS, 1994), de Campo (BOURDIEU, 1983; 1989; 2003; 2007) e de Ideologia (BARROS, 2015; SILVA; SILVA, 2009) foram elucidados para direcionar teoricamente o estudo. Os documentos históricos analisados na pesquisa constituem-se dos exemplares da Pedagogium editados entre 1921 a 1927, exceto pelos números 6 (1922), 16 (1924) e 18 (1925), aos quais não tivemos acesso; das legislações educacionais do Rio Grande do Norte de 1892 a 1925; e de obras norte-rio-grandenses publicadas durante a Primeira República que abordavam temas de Higiene. Com o intuito de direcionar a investigação das fontes, utilizamos a categoria de análise Ideias pedagógico-higienistas, construída a partir do conceito de Ideias Pedagógicas (SAVIANI, 2013) e da definição histórica da Higiene como área da medicina. Após a realização deste estudo, podemos concluir que a referida revista, assim como a sua entidade criadora, a APRN, reuniu vários representantes do campo educacional local preocupados com a situação do ensino daquele tempo. Esse periódico divulgou ideias pedagógico-higienistas, embora parte delas já estivesse presente na legislação educacional do Rio Grande do Norte, a exemplo da higiene escolar, da educação feminina para o lar e da educação sanitária. Além disso, noticiou e elogiou ações educacionais do Governo do estado baseadas em princípios higienistas.
