Resumo:The dissertation analyses from the speeches and reports of the provincial presidents, how long medical and hygienist speeches in the second half of the 19th century at a province from Rio Grande do Norte. The factors that led to construction of public cemetery in Jardim do Seridó, a city from Rio Grande do Norte. How factors resulted in funeral cultural changes and social processes of perception about the death and dying. The cemetery discussed has been used since 1857 that year the congregation death book begins. The liturgical blessing of cemetery was on 12th March 1858, by Priest Francisco Justino Pereira de Brito. Influence of State and clerics about construction of extra-wall cemeteries in the country were questions as a relation between political powers and religious powers regarding hygienist speeches and the spaces of death, in the 19th century. Based on supposition the cemetery is an integral part of every city, when should think about urbanisation plans for city, one must keep in mind where the people who have their final destination to go. A purpose inserted on study is to reflect about factors that contribute to construction of the public cemetery along funeral transformations in context. About the diseases that affected all region and how much that health factors were associated with changes in the funeral spaces from Jardim do Seridó. The study has carried out by death books, laws, town decrees, wills, posture codes, newspapers and photographs.
