Resumo: | Queimadas, located in the municipality of Taipu, in the region of Mato Grande, is a black rural
community, which lives from agricultural activities, associating temporary crops (mandioca,
beans) and the monoculture of sugarcane. It knows internal and external conflicts, involving
historical, territorial and political aspects, which are characteristic of quilombolas communities.
However, the location was not the stage for a strong mobilization, despite being in a territory
where since the beginning of the 21st century there have been ethnic emergencies and where
there has been a strong presence of the MST since the late 1980s, in Brazil, and in 1990, in
Mato Grande (RN). This community has also not benefited from federal development programs
and continues to have poor infrastructure, through a dependency relationship with local
authorities. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the historical trajectory of the fight for lands
in Queimadas, in order to understand the reasons for the absence of political protagonism. For
this, we started from participant observation and semi-structured interviews in the researched
community and in institutions linked to the city hall. The documentary and bibliographic
analysis was complemented with the reading of aerial images and maps to identify the territory
and its conflicts. |
