Resumo:The aim of this paper is proceed a literature narrative review of the burnout syndrome in Primary Health Care. The search has been made in Scielo databases, Bireme and PubMed, using the MESH “burnout”, "Burnout, professional", "Primary health care" and "Physicians, Family". We analyzed 721 studies and twenty articles were chosen. There were included studies that have used Maslach Burnout Inventory to quantify the burnout syndrome and that were conducted with health professionals working in primary care; there were excluded studies at different levels of complexity and with professional training process. Physicians were the most studied professional category, and the burnout levels have shown varied among Primary Health Care professionals. The associations with burnout were related to: sex, age, working hours, children, race, mental stressors, interprofessional relationships, socially vulnerable. We conclude that the variability in the results requires standardization of methods of characterization of the syndrome, furthermore another studies in primary health care
