Resumo:During adolescence, individuals strive to build your identity, and the structuring of sexual identity is relevant part of this process, since the roles of males and females are the most important from the sociocultural point of view. We chose to question teenagers about their concepts of fatherhood. We conducted an analytical exploratory cross-sectional study with 196 adolescents between 10 and 19 years enrolled in public schools in Natal / RN. A structured questionnaire regarding sociodemographic questions and the concept of fatherhood was used. The results revealed that parenting was characterized by the acquisition and assumption of responsibilities of adulthood. This concept is support by the scientific literature that says that for young people from the poorer classes, the project of autonomy and social mobility is realized by the constitution of his own family and the ability to nurture and sustain it
