To evaluate the influence of temperature on anaerobic digestion, four UASB reactors with a volume of 25 L each were used, applying temperatures of 25, 20, 15 and 12°C. Different values of the applied hydraulic retention time led to different sludge ages in the reactors. The results showed that the reactor reaches its maximum performance at a sludge age of 100 d for any temperature. By using the obtained experimental data, it was possible to develop empirical equations which allow estimation of the division of the influent COD load into fractions discharged in the effluent, converted into sludge and transformed into biogas O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver uma relação entre a eficiência da digestão anaeróbia e as duas variáveis operacionais mais importantes: temperatura e idade de lodo, gerando uma expressão empírica para estimar a eficiência da digestão para qualquer temperatura e idade de lodo. Para avaliar a influência da temperatura sobre a digestão anaeróbia, foram utilizados 4 reatores UASB com volume de 25 L cada, aplicando-se temperaturas de 25, 20, 15 e 12°C. Diferentes valores do tempo de detenção hidráulica aplicado resultaram em diferentes idades de lodo nos reatores. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que o reator atinge o seu desempenho máximo a uma idade de lodo de 100 d aproximadamente, para todas as temperaturas.
