The article aims to show how these teaching practices enable an improvement in the learning process, strengthening links between University and Society. The issue revolved around whether there was a possibility of improving the quality of education in public higher education institutions involving research projects and extension of the methodological practices in the classroom. Such questioning is justified by the importance that universities have for society, regarding the creation and transmission of knowledge. The project methodology was based on several moments of planning, implementation and evaluation of changes aimed at continuous process improvement. In the end, it was concluded that applied research has proved a useful tool to improve teaching methodology and to facilitate the assimilation of theoretical knowledge obtained in the course Este artigo aborda os principais resultados obtidos por um projeto de pesquisa e extensão aplicado no curso de Engenharia de Produção (UFRN). O artigo objetiva mostrar como essas práticas de ensino possibilitam um melhoria no processo de aprendizagem, estreitando as relações Universidade-Sociedade. A problemática girava em torno se havia a possibilidade de melhorar a qualidade de ensino nas IES públicas associando os projetos de pesquisa e de extensão às práticas metodológicas em sala de aula. Tal questionamento justifica-se pela importância que as universidades têm para a sociedade, no tocante à criação e transmissão de conhecimentos. A metodologia do projeto se baseou em diversos momentos de planejamento, implementação e avaliação das mudanças objetivando a melhoria contínua do processo.
