Resumo:This article discusses the main results of a research project and extent used in the course of Industrial Engineering (UFRN). The article aims to show how these teaching practices enable an improvement in the learning process, strengthening links between University and Society. The issue revolved around whether there was a possibility of improving the quality of education in public higher education institutions involving research projects and extension of the methodological practices in the classroom. Such questioning is justified by the importance that universities have for society, regarding the creation and transmission of knowledge. The project methodology was based on several moments of planning, implementation and evaluation of changes aimed at continuous process improvement. In the end, it was concluded that applied research has proved a useful tool to improve teaching methodology and to facilitate the assimilation of theoretical knowledge obtained in the course
