However, from Eugênio Coseriu's (1980, 2007) theory of language, in which he proposes the existence of three levels of language (universal, historical and textual), it is possible to review the multiplicity of imputed (not always reconcilable) features to coherence. In this paper, we aim to present a proposal for understanding coherence based on the theory of language levels, unraveling the relationship between the concepts of coherence, meaning and sense. Regarding the methodology, it is a theoretical and exploratory research, which uses the procedures of bibliographic survey and analysis of examples that stimulate understanding (GIL, 2007). The basic theoretical framework is the work of Coseriu (1980, 2007), which is opposed to works that deal with the phenomenon of coherence, with wide repercussions in Textual Linguistics, such as Charolles (1978, 1995), Beaugrande and Dressler (1997 ) and Bernardez (1982, 2003). As a result, we consider that coherence is not a single and homogeneous phenomenon. On the contrary, coherence is a tripartite phenomenon from which three theoretical objects emerge, each of them aligned to a level of language. Em trabalhos já historicamente reconhecidos na Linguística Textual, a coerência, de forma geral, tem sido concebida como mensagem ou conteúdo do texto, ou ainda como uma rede de relações conceituais que se estabelecem na tessitura textual. No entanto, a partir da teoria da linguagem de Eugênio Coseriu (1980, 2007), na qual ele propõe a existência de três níveis da linguagem (universal, histórico e textual), é possível rever a multiplicidade de traços (nem sempre conciliáveis) imputados à coerência. Neste trabalho, temos como objetivo apresentar uma proposta de compreensão da coerência com base na teoria dos níveis da linguagem, deslindando a relação entre os conceitos de coerência, significado e sentido. No que concerne à metodologia, trata-se de uma pesquisa teórica e exploratória, que recorre aos procedimentos de levantamento bibliográfico e análise de exemplos que estimulem a compreensão (GIL, 2007). O referencial teórico básico é a obra de Coseriu (1980, 2007), a qual é contraposta a obras que tratam o fenômeno da coerência, de ampla repercussão na Linguística Textual, tais como Charolles (1978, 1995), Beaugrande e Dressler (1997) e Bernardez (1982, 2003). Como resultado, consideramos que a coerência não é um fenômeno único e homogêneo.
