Resumo: | The aim of this thesis is to understand how the non-partisanship is manifested in the ethos of
the news discourse of a journalistic media that presents itself as nonpartisan. For Brazilian
political journalism seaks to glue within itself an image of non-partisanship, so as not to lose
credibility with its public. We rely on the theory of discursive ethos in Discourse Analysis
according to Maingueneau and Charaudeau to analyze the discursive ethos of journalistic
website Congresso em Foco. The theoretical-methodological course of analysis consists of four
steps, which are, to reflect on the pre-discursive ethos of Congresso em Foco; to analyze the
discursive ethos (said ethos + shown ethos) of the website; to identify the categorical,
experiential and ideological dimensions of the ethos of the Congresso em Foco’s discourse; to
analyze the ideology of non-partisanship in the political journalism discourse of Congresso em
Foco. As pre-discursive ethos was identified the ethos of political journalism, whose constituent
elements are the anchoring in the real, the commitment to the public, the credibility, the belief
in truth, the journalist’s mediator role, the three rhetorical evidences (ethos, pathos and logos),
the objectivity, the timeliness, the periodicity and the non-partisanship. The said ethos was
analyzed from Congresso em Foco institutional ethos, from which 12 units of sense of ethos
were identified. The shown ethos was analyzed from 12 news published in the first half of 2018.
It was identified, in the news discourse of Congresso em Foco, in the categorical dimension of
ethos: the meanings of political journalism and “watchdog” of society; in the experiential
dimension: the meanings of professionalism, credibility, relevance, speed, didacticism and
pluralism of voices; and in the ideological dimension: the meanings of fighting corruption and
defending democracy, diversity and Human Rights, of independence, of journalism for change,
and, paradoxically, partisanship and non-partisanship. The non-partisanship is the ideology that
operates from behind the Congresso em Foco and it is other way of nominating the impartiality
in the political and journalistic discourses. |
