This endeavour consists essentially of an examination of the various facets of the composition with the purpose of conceiving for the work an interpretative proposal, whose main guiding element is the characteristics of the musical genres with which each movement relates. As the final objective of the investigation conducted here, it is intended to produce a criticalinterpretative edition of the studied music, which can lead the interested musicians in the direction of an expressive and coherent interpretation. The study initially presents information about the artist, summarizing his formation and his musical influences. At this moment it gives an overview of his performance as an instrumentalist and composer and discusses his published work. It then enters the theme of musical interpretation, with a discussion of the terminology used in the area and the limits to which the interpreter is subjected in his mister. Next, an exposition of the main existing types of edition is made, outlining the contours of the present edition. Finally, the inquiry reaches its core, explaining the characteristics of the musical genres displayed in the piece and presenting a performance proposal for each of the composition movements. The paper concludes with last considerations on the topics discussed and the edition presented. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) O tema sobre o qual está calcado este trabalho é a obra do compositor e instrumentista cearense Nonato Luiz, tendo como objeto específico de estudo a peça denominada Suíte Nordestina nº 2, integrada pelos seguintes movimentos: I – Serenata, II – Xote e III - Frevo. Tal empreitada consiste essencialmente em um exame das várias facetas da composição com o objetivo de conceber para a obra uma proposta interpretativa, que tem como principal elemento norteador as características dos gêneros musicais com os quais cada um dos movimentos se relaciona. Como resultado prático da investigação aqui conduzida apresenta-se uma edição crítico-interpretativa da música estudada, a qual busca conduzir os músicos interessados na direção de uma execução expressiva e coerente. O estudo apresenta inicialmente informações sobre o artista, fazendo um resumo de sua formação e de suas influências musicais, além de discorrer sobre sua atuação como instrumentista/compositor e sobre sua obra publicada. Em seguida adentra no tema da interpretação musical, com uma discussão sobre a terminologia empregada na área e os limites a que se submete o intérprete em seu mister. Em seguida é feita uma exposição sobre os principais tipos de edição existentes, delineando-se os contornos da edição ora apresentada. Por fim, a pesquisa chega a seu cerne, explicitando as características dos gêneros musicais presentes na peça e apresentando uma proposta de execução para cada um dos movimentos da composição.
