Resumo:Based on a careful review of Freud’s writings, our goal is to show how the idea of psychic conflict arises from the clinic treatment of hysteria, highlighting the aspect of novelty in the analytic experience. We also address the definition of psychic conflict in psychoanalytical theory, approaching its role in the origin of neurotical symptoms, its importance in the therapeutic work, and its relation with the end of analysis. Dora’s case is discussed, and a detailed analysis is made about how this conflict is found in her history, inter-personal relationships and psychic dynamics. In conclusion, it is emphasized how the study of the fundamental concept of psychic conflict is important nowadays to the professional training of the contemporary analysts.
