Resumo: | This research deals with a study about the relationship between religious literacy and society,
seeking to bring into focus evidence on the influence of this literacy on the social practices of
the members of the Messengers of the King Organization, existing since 1949, belonging to the
Evangelical Baptist Church of Convention, working with girls from 09 to 16 years. In this sense,
its objective is to analyze how the events and practices of literacy in the environment of the
King's Messenger Organization are constituted, based on Hamilton (2000) categories in terms
of participants, environment / domain, artifacts and activities. The proposed research is in the
field of Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2013); Critical Applied Linguistics
(RAJAGOPALAN, 2003). As for the methodology used, the research followed the qualitative
approach (CHIZZOTTI, 2005; BOGDAN; BIKLEN, 2006; ANDRÉ, 1996; CANÇADO,
1994), inspired by the ethnographic aspect (ANDRÉ, 1996; CANÇADO, 1994). In terms of the
theoretical approach, the research is based on the postulates of Literacy Studies (KLEIMAN,
2005; BAYNHAM, 1995; OLIVEIRA, 2010), as well as studies of Critical Literacy
(FAJARDO, 2015; VASQUEZ, 2016), Religious Literacy (COULMAS, 2014; LOPES, 2006;
WEBER, 2004; MONTEZANO, 2006), and finally, Conducting Literacy of freelance readers /
writers (MARTINS, 2012; FREIRE, 1989). In the course of the construction of this research,
positive notes were found of the influence of a work aimed at a dialogical pedagogy, generating
reflective agents and autonomous writers. Furthermore, it was identified that the dynamics of
the activities carried out in the Organization favor, through readings and debates, the
development of the sense of equity and social justice, while seeking to guide the conduct of
each participant, generating social agents concerned with their actions in the middle that are
inserted. Such results make this research relevant, highlighting literacy actions that contribute
to the development of reading and writing skills of its participants, demanding knowledge of a
religious educational practice and reflecting on social actions. |
