This analysis first begins with Eros and civilization, Marcuse’s reading about Freud’s anthropological speculations. In that text, Marcuse uses psychoanalysis to problematize the connection between civilization an repression, as well as the way to think the remaining spaces of freedom, represented by the refusal elements. Next, an approach is taken about One-dimensional man, related to the new elements which appear around a closer domination in the developed capitalist countries and mark the almost complete disappearance of freedom in the technological society. From this discussion, it was verified that Marcuse's arguments are relevant for understanding the context of unopposed society and for thinking about possible strategies of resistance and political action in contemporary times. A proposta central desse trabalho é investigar em Eros e civilização (1955) e O homem unidimensional (1964), obras de Herbert Marcuse, a forma como a sociedade pré e tecnológica tem determinado os limites da liberdade através de mecanismos de controle. Essa análise parte num primeiro momento de Eros e civilização, da leitura de Marcuse sobre as especulações antropológicas de Freud. Marcuse nessa obra usa a psicanálise para problematizar a relação entre civilização e repressão, assim como para pensar os espaços de liberdade que restam, representados pelos espaços de recusa. Em seguida é abordado em O homem unidimensional os novos elementos que aparecem em torno de uma dominação mais fechada nos países capitalistas desenvolvidos que caracteriza o esvaziamento quase total da liberdade na sociedade tecnológica.
