description The activity system model is situated in a dialectical model of plural and conflicting socialization, throughout life, with an active subject in the construction of his life and transformation of his environment. It relies on a systemic approach. This study investigates the dynamics of the activity system (professional, familiar, personal and social domain) triggered by the work-retirement transition in professors of a public university who chose to extend their working life. It is qualitative, longitudinal research. A two-step sequential multimethod strategy was used with the following techniques: The Activity System Inventory (ASI), self-observation of daily activities and semi-structured interviews. Fourteen teachers participated, and they were selected through a sample of typical cases. It was identified that the teaching activity system is multicenter, with projects under development and/or in perspective in all life domains, and the relations between them are more defined in terms of aid than of an impediment nature. In this life model, the most important aspirations are in the family sphere, for which immediate support is given. These are projects in this sphere: preserving a good environment, having more family time, managing finances, helping dependents and taking care of the household. The personal/social sphere is most valued hierarchically with health care projects, interacting with friends and travelling more often. The professional sphere is the one that most assists in the operation of the activity system with projects to continue working, to be recognized for their professional career and not to be consumed by work. The meaning of work in its relations with other spheres of life was analyzed. It was found that, for these professors, to continue to work contributes more to the achievement of family and personal/social projects than to stop working. The workload is required to be reduced, but not to the point of retirement.

O modelo do sistema de atividades se situa em um modelo dialético de uma socialização plural e conflituosa, ao longo da vida, com um sujeito ativo na construção de sua vida e transformação do seu ambiente. Apoia-se em uma abordagem sistêmica. Este estudo investiga a dinâmica do sistema de atividades (domínio profissional, familiar, pessoal e social) disparada pela transição trabalho-aposentadoria, em docentes de uma universidade pública que optaram por prolongar sua vida laboral. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, longitudinal. Se fez uso de uma estratégia multimétodos sequencial dividida em duas etapas por meio das seguintes técnicas: o Inventário do Sistema de Atividades (ISA), a auto-observação das atividades cotidianas e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Participaram 14 docentes selecionados por meio de uma amostragem de casos típicos. Identificou-se que o sistema de atividades dos docentes é multicêntrico, com projetos em desenvolvimento e/ou em perspectiva em todos os domínios de vida, sendo as relações entre eles qualificadas mais em termos de auxílio do que de impedimento. No modelo de vida, as aspirações mais importantes se encontram na esfera familiar, para a qual se atribui apoio mais imediato. São projetos dessa esfera: preservar um bom clima, ter mais tempo com a família, gerir as finanças, ajudar os dependentes e cuidar da casa. A esfera pessoal/social é mais valorizada hierarquicamente com projetos de cuidar da saúde, interagir com amigos e viajar mais vezes. A esfera profissional é a que mais auxilia no funcionamento do sistema de atividades com projetos de continuar trabalhando, ser reconhecido pela trajetória profissional e não se deixar consumir pelo trabalho. Analisou-se o sentido do trabalho em suas relações com as outras esferas de vida. Identificou-se que, para esses docentes, continuar trabalhando contribui mais para o alcance dos projetos da esfera familiar e pessoal/social do que parar de trabalhar.
