Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: Patient safety is a widely studied topic in the current context.
Despite the growing interest in the subject, the lack of awareness about the problem
is still widespread, so the importance of working on this issue is great in order to
reduce the damage and adverse events caused by health care.This research aims to
evaluate the patient safety culture in the Primary Care Network of CurraisNovos-RN,
in order to identify the strengths and opportunities for improvement.This work, a
pioneer in the Seridó region, could become a reference for the improvement of the
health system, as well as directly impacting the training of Multiprofessional
Residency practioner, medical and nursing students linked to the Multicampi School
of Medical Sciences and the Trairí School of Health Sciences, by the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Norte, who develop their internships and activities in the
Basic Health Units in question.METHODOLOGY: Observational research with a
quantitative approach, for which we used the Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety
Culture questionnaire, translated, adapted and validated by Timm & Rodrigues
(2016), to evaluate the patient safety culture in Primary Care in Brazil. applied to the
effective professionals of the Family Health Teams of the urban area of the
municipality.RESULTS: The sections on information exchange with other institutions
and support from managers, administrators and leaders averaged positive responses
below 50%; Regarding patient safety and quality questions, the average of positive
answers reached 55.7%; in terms related to work in health services, this average was
65.6%, while the communication and monitoring and global evaluation sections had
the highest averages, totaling 77.5% and 87.8% positive answers for patient safety.
respectively.The analyzed data highlighted weaknesses and potentialities to support
local management suggestions, to improve the patient safety culture in the primary
care in question.CONCLUSION: The general perception of professionals about safety
in PHC of CurraisNovos pointed out as strengths those related to communication,
monitoring and evaluation; On the other hand, weaknesses were observed in the
exchange of information with other institutions and, as a critical point, the support and
manager`s assistance, administrators and leaders stand out. |
