Resumo:The use of natural fibers as reinforcement in polymer composites with the goal of replacing all or part of synthetic fibers has received much attention in recent years. The disadvantages of the use of these fibers in polymer compositers are related to the fact that they are hydrophilic and thus the presence of moisture, results in a weak adhesion with most arrays and consequently a negative effect on the mechanical properties of these composites. One way to obtain products with desired properties is the hybridization, by setting composites containing layers of natural and synthetic fibers. In this research work, it was evaluated parameters such the influence type of configuration (arrangement of the layers) and adverse environmental conditions, such as the amount of water absorption, the strength and stiffness properties of composite materials involving reinforcement of natural fibers, such as jute fiber, and synthetic fibers, as glass-E in polymer matrix (Ortoteftálica polyster). Moreover, some specimens had their side edges protected with resin in order to minimize absorption of water for this region and consequently achieve improvements in mechanical properties. The composites were subjected to uniaxial tensile tests and three-point beding, both held in dry and saturated wet conditions, with and without side edges protected. The composite plates were fabricated in Hemfibra Tecnologia em Saneamento Ltda. The results show that the hybrid laminate obtained a mechanical behavior near the fiberglass laminate, and better than jute fabric laminate, when evaluated in all situations, both dry and saturated wet. It addition, the specimens that had their lateral edges protected with resin saturated with a smaller amount of water in a longer time, and their mechanical properties of uniaxial tensile and three-poiny bending were better than those specimens without edges protected in the saturated wet state.
