Resumo:The shrimp farming business holds a significant amount of machines to assist all stages of shrimp production, therefore their proper operation is essential to the final product’s quality. With the purpose to structure the necessary plans to manage the maintenance processes, the need to create a department such as Maintenance Planning and Control (MPC) surfaces. It represents a way to solve problems regarding operational and managerial difficulties encountered. Consequently, the research aimed to analyze the implementation of the MPC in a company in the shrimp farming business in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Norte, where, with the implementation, it is intended to supply input for the company to develop and improve its management culture in the area. The study is categorized as an action research as it involves direct actions from the researcher, it is an applied research, and its objectives are descriptive and exploratory. The application methodology supplies directions to a good MPC implementation, where the direct relationship between researcher and company provides better familiarity and mutual help. The utilization of existent practices in the maintenance macro process and management and quality tools provides the needed direction to comply with previously established goals. Results can be perceived, such as a better standardization management, team structuring and reshaping, equipment identification and tracking, routines management, yearly planning, visible management and creation and implementation of indicators. From the implementation of the MPC sector, the studied company could prove how the maintenance department was unsatisfactory and needed structural and management improvement, hence, the performance monitoring through the indicators and by the daily perception of corrective measures decrease can be highlighted.
